Best-of-Class Floral Display |
Winter 2003-2004 |
When we have time in between our variety trial and plant breeding research, we plant a small display of best-of-class selections in front of the main entrance to the research center. This season's display was planted 5 Dec. It contains a number (but not all) of the many good performers evaluated in past trials. We will try and display pictures of this landscape project over time. Much grander and comprehensive displays my be found at the public gardens. |

24 Jan. - Cool nights, mild days, conservative use of water, and the water-holding and temperature moderating affect of mulch help these plants as growth and color are now much more noticeable. Visit again, as these plants fill up the landscape with their beauty. Click on the cultivar names to view their development in their trials. |

29 Feb. - The garden matures and brightens up the landscape with these best-of-class selections. No pesticides were required in this location with these cultivars. Plants received two teaspoons of Osmocote [(15-9-12 (5-6 mo.) slow release type with micronutrients; The Scotts Co., Maryville, Ohio)]/plant directly after planting. |

View these and many more best-of-class flowers in the Current & Recent Trials and the Trial Archives. Also visit the four best-of-class displays at four of Florida's premier public gardens. Visit all of Florida's public gardens to take in the natural and exotic floral beauty, and to learn more about these plants and and their importance. This is a part of Florida you really want to make yours. Click on the gator to find other gardens: Best-of-class (BC) may perform significantly better than others in the same class, other flowers not selected as BC my have similarly good evaluations. Sometimes best-of-class does poorly, because no cultivar in the class has done well in the trials we conduct in this environment. We only recommend and display those flowers that perform well here. To read the thorough evaluations of all the cultivars, visit Articles, Papers & Reports to get the details on all the good selections. A simple list of all the good cultivars will appear on our website in the near future. |
