U'Eagle Blue' was direct sown to flat 28 Aug.
V1.0 inch = 2.54 cm
WFlower data:  first flower is the average number of days from seed sowing to the unfurling of the first flower.  Divergence is the average number of days that lapse between the unfurling of the first flower and the last flower in plot or flat.  Data was collected from four 6-plant plots.  Growth regulation was required using 1500 mg.L-1 B-nine on 15 and 22 Spet. on dianthus, petunia, vinca, and zinnias.  Rain delayed bed preparation, requiring petunia data (except 'Eagle Blue') for first open flower and flower divergence to be taken in the flat as non-replicated observations (64 plants/cultivar).
YValues with an asterick (*) represent observations from a single plot.
X
Mean separation within classes by LSD, P<0.05.
ZDianthus hybrida (D. chinensis x D. barbatus) and D. interspecific.
